Managing VMware in Computer

Hi All,

There was a big problem with me when I started with VMware that how to configure my VMware so I can access my VMware application like Cisco Call Manager, Cisco Unity Connection etc .
Well in this case I started with bridge network and NAT but I had lots of trouble , Finally I found the most easy and convenient way to use this method is VM adaptors. The best part with them is that you can use it from your computer as they are part of your computers as we did earlier in loopback adaptor in GNS3 and using VM adaptors we can also use them to connect with our GNS3 to visualize voice gateways. And one more benefit is we can connect multiple application as we are using them on LAN, like PC on VMware, CUC and subscribers in CUCM.

In order to use this go to the device you want to edit, first it should be off(not suspended only then you can use it).

Go to Edit Virtual Machine-->Network Adaptor-->Custom(right hand side)--> Select VMnet1.

In this way all your devices which you will connect to VMnet1 will work in a same LAN.

To define the IP address  range for VMnet 1 :
Go to Edit-->Virtual Network Editor--> Select VMnet1 and change the settings as shown in image below and define the subnet IP. Make sure your subnet is not conflicting with your local internet router.

In this way you you can configure multiple VMnet adaptor creating different subnets for multi-site environment.

In next post we will discuss how to integrate GNS3 and VMware.

my PC is on subnet 192.168.248.0
and by default it is showing above ip in virtual network adaptor on VMNET1
so do i need to change it.
